Stephanie Talmage Forsberg for Trustee

Dr. Stephanie Talmage Forsberg is the 12th generation of her family to live in East Hampton Town. She is just finishing her sixth year as an East Hampton Town Trustee, and has been the Assistant Clerk of the Trustees for the past four years. Stephanie earned her B.S. from Cornell University, her Master’s in Biology from California State University Northridge, and her Ph.D. from the Stony Brook University. Stephanie has studied many marine environments, all around the globe, from Long Island to Mexico to Tahiti and back.
Stephanie has been made many advances in her work as a full time researcher for Stony Brook University. While working on her Ph.D. research, Stephanie researched ocean acidification and its effects on the growth and development of our local hard clam, oyster, and bay scallop. She has numerous publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals.  Her past education and research in marine science provides her with a great background for many of the marine related topics as a Town Trustee.

Stephanie also completed a second Master’s degree in education at Stony Brook University and is now a science teacher at a nearby, local high school.  Her background in education and science also are useful in Stephanie role on the Trustee’s Education Committee.  In this last term, Stephanie was influential to suggest a new water quality monitoring project in all Trustee waters in East Hampton.  In 2013, the entire board of Trustees supported this project which continuously monitors our waters for harmful red and brown tides.

For the past six years on the Trustee board, Stephanie has worked adamantly in keeping beach access for all residents, fought the salt-water fishing license and fee imposed by the state, supported the Trustee’s role in the on-going defense of beach ownership as well participated in numerous other tasks to ensure that East Hampton Town residents will be able to enjoy the beauty of our beaches today and well into the future.
