MEET THE CANDIDATES! Dominick Stanzione, our incumbent Councilman.

MEET THE CANDIDATES! Please follow our page each day for the next 16 days as we profile each of the Republican candidates running for office this election year. Please vote on November 5th. We are the party of the people!

Dominick Stanzione, our incumbent Councilman, has served on our Town Board since 2010. His first order of business after being sworn in was to help steer our town through the financial crisis inherited as a result of the inept policies and faulty fiscal management of the prior, completely Democratic administration. As a municipal finance professional, Dominick designed the financial package that helped restore our Town’s financial health. After consulting with many professionals, Dominick presented a draft plan to Supervisor Wilkinson and that plan formed the framework of the Town’s financial recovery. This plan, and the hard work of Senator LaValle and Assemblyman Thiele, who successfully led the legislative efforts, brought East Hampton back from the brink of bankruptcy.
In addition to working on the town’s financial recovery, Dominick has been instrument in tackling some of the most difficult and controversial issues facing our town. The following are just some of Dominick’s accomplishments:
As liaison to the Montauk Citizens Advisory Committee, Dominick was the deciding vote to save the Fort Pond House as a community asset.
As liaison to the East Hampton Budget and Finance Advisory Committee, Dominick worked with its members to provide the Town with finance and management options. Importantly, he recognized the committee’s value and supported its efforts despite criticism from other board members.
As liaison to the Human Services Department, Dominick and the Department’s staff spearhead innovative public/private partnerships with the Family Service League of New York, an organization that provides licensed mental health services, and worked towards expanding our relationship with Project Most for after-school child support. In addition, the quality of food served to our senior citizens was improved, and transportation services were upgraded.
As liaison to the Natural Resources Department, Dominick recruited Kim Shaw as Director of Natural Resources to replace retiring Larry Penny.
As liaison to the East Hampton Airport, Dominick tackled an assignment no other Board member wanted! Dominick invested an amazing amount of time learning about this highly specialized area. It had been a department roiled in controversy, as airport closure advocates vilified aviation’s contributions to our community, economy, and emergency preparedness. Dominick spearheaded the effort to study noise abatement and helped us secure the seasonal control tower. As the most knowledgeable Board member on airport affairs, he was instrumental in completing the Airport Master Plan, a comprehensive document detailing the airport’s physical layout for the future, which was unanimously approved by the Town Board.
Dominick’s Background:
For Dominick, there is no biography without first honoring his father and mother. Born in Brooklyn in 1953, Dominick is the younger of two children. His father, Dominick, Sr., who was an immigrant from Nola, Italy, married Vera Shannon Shultz. They were married for 62 years. The elder Stanzione was a manual laborer and ditch digger, baseball coach and tough guy, who put the security and future of his family first. He died 10 weeks before Dominick was elected to the East Hampton Town Board in November 2009. Dominick’s daughter, Jessica Leigh, recently completed a graduate degree in education at Hofstra University.
Dominick attended S.U.N.Y. at Stony Brook earning a degree in economics, and thereafter a Masters Degree in Public Administration. He earned an additional masters degree in Journalism at the prestigious program at Columbia University.
Dominick has been a professional in the financial services industry for approximately 30 years. For the past 12 years, Dominick has been President and Managing Partner of Colonial Capital Advisors, a firm specializing in providing advisory services for fixed-income trading strategies to institutional clients. From 1996 through 2000, Dominick served as a Senior Vice-President, Director of Corporate Research for Freeman Securities, managing a team of financial analysts. His career began at L.F. Rothschild, before moving to the Government Bond Trading Department at the Bank of New York and then Chase Manhattan Bank, as a vice-president, serving corporate and municipal finance clients.
Community Activities
Dominick first visited East Hampton in 1971. When Dominick moved to East Hampton full time, he became actively involved in community affairs. He served as a member of the Amagansett Citizens Advisory Committee, and is an active member of the Amagansett Volunteer Fire Department. Dominick founded East Hampton Citizens for Fairness in Zoning, a group advocating fairness, openness and transparency in zoning decisions. He was also a co-founder of the Group for Good Government, an organization promoting civility, fiscal responsibility and good government practices.
In addition, Dominick is an active member of Project Hope, a volunteer group coordinating support services for disadvantaged residents, and he co-founded the Amagansett Food Pantry, a satellite of the East Hampton Food Pantry. Currently, Dominick serves on the Board of Directors of the East Hampton Food Pantry. He has also volunteered at the East Hampton Community Kitchen, a multi-denominational clerically inspired monthly community supper.
In short, Councilman Dominick Stanzione takes on the tough jobs and is willing to make the tough decisions. His municipal finance knowledge, open and civil demeanor, and willingness to put our Town’s interests ahead of politics will serve our Town well moving forward.
