Health & Fitness

life in these parts and books too

Summer is cresting and have we had our fill? The farmstand off Spring Close has the most delicious tomatoes! I have never seen such a variety as these "nipple" tomatoes as we dubbed them, as they come to a point at top and were quite tasty and juicy. We put them on a split baguette sprinkled with olive oil and topped with the most  yummy artichoke crabmeat dip from Amagansett Seafood. Bake for a few and then broil on low. Wow!
I have seen the sunflowers. August is a special month, not only because I am a Leo. I begin the month with my birthday and this year took a jaunt to Greenport, Montauk's "sister town." What fun! They still have mom and pop shops and restaurants, and Fourth and Main, which is new, at least to us, was a birthday dinner gastronomic delight. A friendly classy bar in the front was nice for an after dinner drink with friends. Back in Montauk to continue the birthday week, we took friends to shop and eat and people watch the Montauk changing scene. Homeport was our second destination after a delightful breakfast/ brunch at Mtk. Cafe. Can you say eggs Benedict all day all ways? Wow. We love Mtk Cafe and the owners, the Katispas's are sweet. The outdoor garden seating was just so comfy. Our Floridan friends loved the cool weather. We take the Montauk breezes for granted. I am now the proud owner of a "Warning Mermaids" sign! It graces my kitchen.  Thanks, friends. Homeport rocks. My book, Cheap Fish is there by the way. Pop in and get a copy and maybe a bauble for yourself. They have these cute silver Mtk. bracelets. I want one! Birthday money, yay.
The fishing boats were in and we stopped to watch the hard working saltys do their thing. You gotta love a guy in fishing boots. Does Montauk have the cutest commercial fishermen or what? Ah to be young again...
We continued our tourist day with friends by shopping at the Montauk Clothing Company for tee shirts and I bought a great corduroy jacket for Fall with the Lighthouse on the back.  I will rock that in SF in October. I like being proud I live out here, even if Montauk is not my address. I left my heart there in 1975.
