Artists Against Abuse is a themed event that brings artists, philanthropists, and residents from all corners of eastern Long Island—and afar —together each year to support the mission of eastern Long Island’s only comprehensive domestic violence services organization, The Retreat.  The Retreat’s mission is to provide safety, shelter, and support for victims of domestic violence and to break the cycle of family violence by implementing prevention activities.

Over the past 19 years, the Artists Against Abuse event has raised significant funds helping to positively impact more than 16,000 families, with an emphasis on battered women and their children.  This year’s event will be honoring Congressman Tim Bishop, a true advocate of the Violence Against Women’s Act.

“The World Health Organization reports that in some countries, up to 70 percent of women report having been victims of domestic violence at some stage in their lives,” said Congressman Tim Bishop.  “I have always been a strong advocate for the needs and rights of women. Women play integral roles in the global community and they deserve to be treated with respect by their male counterparts.”

“The Retreat is grateful to recognize Congressman Tim Bishop for his advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence,” stated Michele Pollock Rich, Executive Director of The Retreat.  “We are truly thankful for his support of our domestic violence programs and services.”

In 2014, the event’s theme is Midsummer Night Fever.  In addition to Congressman Bishop the event will welcome actress and social advocate Rachel Grant.  Hosted at the Ross School Lower Campus Field House in Bridgehampton, the June 21st event will begin at 6:30PM and will feature a live auction with auctioneer Dr. Gerald Curatola,  a silent auction, one-of-a-kind works of art, games of chance, and dancing to the sounds of DJ MKL of Jarrell Entertainment.
