VIDEO: A Look At Tuesday Night Regattas With Sail Montauk

Take a virtual trip to Star Island on Lake Montauk for a Tuesday night sailing race with Sail Montauk.

Sail Montauk's second ever Tuesday night regatta in Montauk took place last night, and co-owners Emily Havlik and Darius Ali (who opened the business together three years ago) were kind enough to reserve a seat for us.

Every Tuesday night through September, four boats manned by licensed skippers take to the water in a series of three casual races. There are three "crew" positions on the boat for those who want to gain sailing experience or just have a drink and ride along. Seats are $95 per person or $250 per boat, which includes a pizza and beer "Three Sheets To The Wind" after party at 8 p.m. at Hurricane Alley down the dock from the Sail Montauk slip on Star Island. No experience is required.

Richard Miller, a Manhattan resident with little sailing experience, came aboard for his second Tuesday in a row with Sail Montauk and said, "It's a lot of fun and you pick up a lot. It's up to you how much you want to learn. The crew is fantastic, they're all really nice people."

Sail Montauk also offers charter sailing and sailing lessons. Visit sailmontauk.com or call 522-5183 for more information.
