Smokin' Wolf Opens in New Location

Barbecue takeout offered for lunch and dinner year-round.

Smokin' Wolf opened its new barbecue takeout restaurant in East Hampton on Wednesday.

Alexa Wolf said as soon as the doors opened at 11 a.m., there was a steady flow of lunch customers, many who had been waiting for a taste of Smokin' Wolf's menu since last summer.

"We have all the same employees, a lot of the same menu, just a smaller menu," Arthur Wolf, the owner, said.

Wolf, with the help of his family including his daughter, Alexa, first opened a full-service restaurant under the same name last year, in the former Turtle Crossing location. Wolf was a longtime chef at the famed barbecue restaurant, and when it closed after the 2011 season he asked to rent the building, which is for sale.

The first summer in business went well, and Wolf went on the search for a more permanent location.

Just a few doors down, the space at 199 Pantigo Road, in the same building as Luigi's, became available after 27 Fish closed after just one season. While Wolf said he had been hoping to find a restaurant to rent, he decided a takeout business with counter service would suffice, especially since he would have a full kitchen to continue catering. He renovated the interior, putting up authentic barn board to give the space more of a barbecue flair.

"We are not going to skip a beat," he said of his wood-smoked, dry-rubbed barbecue.

The lunch menu consists of $9.75 specials Monday through Friday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Items include the Cowgirl Quesadilla — caramelized onions, guacamole, and mango salsa— BBQ Pulled Pork, and sandwiches, such as the Fried Shrimp Po Boy, and Spicy Shrimp Wrap. There are also fish tacos, a rib basket, and a quarter chicken (BBQ or Roasted) with the choice of a side. The menu includes several salads, like the Southern Fried Chicken Salad, which includes bacon, eggs, grilled corn and Ranch dressing.

For dinner, appetizers range from chips, guacamole, and salsa for $12, to fried Mac & Cheese Bites for $10. Dinner salads include a Caesar Salad for $9 and Quinoa Salad for $14. Quesadillas, wraps, and sandwiches are also available at dinner, such as the Wolfman Burger that's topped with beef chili, cheddar cheese, diced jalapeno, sour cream, and scallions, for $14. Entrees include enchiladas, $17, and Spice Rubbed Grilled Salmon, for $20.

Dinner platters, like Smoked BBQ Ribs for $23 or Smoked BBQ Brisket, for $20, comes with a choice of two sides and cornbread. A la carte sides range from garlic mashed potatoes to collard greens. They come in small, medium, and large sizes.

Smokin' Wolf also has dessert covered. In addition to barbecue, scooped ice cream is for sale. "I loved Snowflake," Wolf said referring to the former ice cream parlor where Bostwick's is now located. "We'll serve eight flavors of Hershey's ice cream, with all the favorite toppings, and even milkshakes," he said.

Once Wolf adds a public restroom, he said he'll be able to add 16 seats for people to sit down inside. There's also seating at picnic tables outside, already in use by Luigi's customers.

Wolf said he plans to stay open year-round, seven days a week, to serve lunch and dinner.

"We want to feed everyone year-round," he said.
