Rare 1920s Montauk Poster Up for Auction Friday

Poster estimated to go for between $12,000 and $18,000 at auction.

A rare poster of Montauk from the 1920s is expected to sell for $12,000 to $18,000 at a New York City auction on Friday.

Swann Auction Galleries said the poster capitalizes on F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Jazz Age," to depict Carl Fisher's Montauk. The man who had developed Miami Beach focused in on Montauk started, in 1925, to create Miami of the north. His plan included a luxury hotel, The Montauk Manor, which still exists, golf courses and fox hunting.

The poster, which the gallery said dates from between 1929 and 1932, shows all Montauk has to offer, including The Manor. "It is an exceptional representation of the tail end of the Roaring Twenties," the gallery said on its website.

The poster has been restored with some painting and had some tears repaired.

The auction is set for Friday at 1:30 p.m.
