Preview: Inside the LVIS Fair Vintage Clothing Booth

A sneak peak at the oldies but goodies that will on sale Saturday.

While gently worn clothes might not be exactly what you think would be at a summer fair, it's exactly what those in the know head right for at the annual

The Vintage Booth is a favorite among fashionistas and thrift shop hounds. Racks of designer clothes and label-less fashion jewels are ready to be rolled out for the 116th extravaganza.

Carefully selected women's dresses, blouses, pants, coats, and even tasteful items for the boudoir will be for sale at bargain prices. Mo Cohen, the chairwoman of the LVIS and women's lead at the organization's thrift shop, the , painstakingly goes through donations and prices every item — from outlandish hats to kid gloves, designer party dresses to silk robes.

What's the criteria for the Vintage Booth? "Anything that isn't current," Cohen said. And, fun, of course.

Cohen and LVIS member Durell Godfey, who helped sort through the treasure trove, pulled out some pieces on Wednesday.

A red fox fur coat is priced at $500 — a steal, they said. Armani sequin-pants will go for $200. A silver-colored Balenciaga "opera" coat-styled cape is $150. A no-name Mary McFadden-style silver jacket with puffy sleeves is $15 and a blue silk taffeta dress for $75. There's also a dark green crushed velvet strapless Bill Blass dress with a fishtail back in the racks, as well as a herringbone mink for $300.

Bargain Box will also be open on Saturday with styles that are more contemporary. A slew of cashmere sweaters have been put aside for Saturday, and there are plenty of designer designs to be found there too, if vintage isn't your style. A classic Oscar de la Renta black beaded dress is priced at $300 and a Dolce & Gabbana navy jacket is $175.

well after the town board meeting last night the way i see it is the whole town is affected andRead More everyting and everyweek is some one getting away with out paying , we have familys of teenagers sharing rooms with there parnets and siblngs , cause the cost of living , hmmm but no matter where you go it cost money , teachers have there work cut out for them if they have to spend 50 dollars to buy stuff its there choice , well what it boils down to is the childern parnetns rather drive cars and have nice clothes and fancy jelws than spend 5 or 1o dollars to pay for pens for there kids to go to schoo.also i dont feel the familys see what education really is is a free babysitting service thats my feelings ,

Yes. The town is in the final stages of review with the FAA. While they were hoping to have it upRead More and running by Memorial Day weekend, it looks more like the 1st of June.

That's great. From what I understand, no one lodged a complaint with the town. Seems after I called,Read More a few phone calls were made and they carted it off.
