Open for the Season: The Clam Bar

Montauk Pearl Oysters are new to the menu for the 2012 season.

You know the season is upon us when the once again starts serving up some of the freshest shellfish in town.

This roadside restaurant on the Napeague Stetch between Montauk and Amagansett, has been open seven days a week since early April due to the warm weather. On Saturday, there was a line to sit down at lunch.

"We've never been this busy before," reports Brian Mooney, an assistant manager. He and fellow manager Leigh Goodstein are back for an 18th and 19th season respectively.

Ever so popular are the lobster rolls.

But this year, the Clam Bar boasts a new menu items this season; Montauk Pearl Oysters. The third-year oysters, served on the half-shell, are grown just a bit further east in Lake Montauk. A half a dozen costs $12.

Weather permitting, the Clam Bar is open noon to sundown. Sit a the bar, at one of the tables, or take-out.
