Highway Diner & Bar recently opened in Wainscott to rave reviews.
The new restaurant is, as the same suggests, on Montauk Highway, just west of the Wainscott village shops. You'll find it next to the big tank in front of the Veterans of Foreign Wars building. Formerly Rugosa, the restaurant had been empty since Oct. 2011, though showed signs the interior was being redone over the summer.
Already, we're hearing good things:
On East Hampton Patch's Facebook page, we were told the following:
- Jennifer Chavez said, "very good food and great prices.. has kids menu. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with full bar"
- Tracey Mata said, "excellent delicious simple yet affordable and best of all breakfast all day :)"
- Jacqueline Lowey said, "Fabulous selection of salads, sandwiches, and plates (i.e. chicken, salmon, steak, skate, burger, pasta, grilled vegetables, meatloaf). Appetizers include calamari/rockshrimp, braised beef tacos, tuna tartare, chicken lettuce wraps, crab cakes. wonderful soups, gumbo, and desserts. ol' fashioned shakes, smoothies, and health drinks, and a great children's menu for only $7.. breakfast served all day... great vibe, great prices, and great place for locals to gather."
