New Restaurant in Town, What Do You Think?

Tell us what you think of the new restaurant in Wainscott.

Highway Diner & Bar recently opened in Wainscott to rave reviews.

The new restaurant is, as the same suggests, on Montauk Highway, just west of the Wainscott village shops. You'll find it next to the big tank in front of the Veterans of Foreign Wars building.  Formerly Rugosa, the restaurant had been empty since Oct. 2011, though showed signs the interior was being redone over the summer.

Already, we're hearing good things:

On East Hampton Patch's Facebook page, we were told the following:

  • Jennifer Chavez said, "very good food and great prices.. has kids menu. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with full bar"
  • Tracey Mata said, "excellent delicious simple yet affordable and best of all breakfast all day :)"
  • Jacqueline Lowey said, "Fabulous selection of salads, sandwiches, and plates (i.e. chicken, salmon, steak, skate, burger, pasta, grilled vegetables, meatloaf). Appetizers include calamari/rockshrimp, braised beef tacos, tuna tartare, chicken lettuce wraps, crab cakes. wonderful soups, gumbo, and desserts. ol' fashioned shakes, smoothies, and health drinks, and a great children's menu for only $7.. breakfast served all day... great vibe, great prices, and great place for locals to gather."
  • Dennis Ferrando said, "It's an awesome place!"

So, what do you think of the new restaurant? Tell us in the comments below. If you snapped some photos of the food, decor or even a menu, you can upload it here.

Very nice place, good prices, good food. Only draw back for me was the noise level. They need something to absorb the loudness.

Great food and prices. But the noise level for us was way too loud. Needs something to absorb the sound. We will try to go when there are less people there.

you didn't name the owner(s). By chance, is Jacqueline Lowey one of them?

The food is AMAZING! I had the warm turkey sandwich and some fries. The service was good and the staff was very nice. The resturant was very comfortable and inviting. I want to eat there again and again!

Where is the DINER at this Diner? Sweet Potato Fries, Onion Rings, etc. Total missed opportunity for East Hampton, we crave a real DINER with real food for real people. Breakfast all day does not a Diner make. Just another foo-froo food dinner place. No different than Tavern, Nichols, Cake Max,etc. Same old menu type food us YEAR ROUNDERS are already BEYOND bored of. I was so looking forward to seeing what they had to offer, but was disappointed with the menu. The place looks nice with the remodeling, love the Diner Counter look, but the noise level is in great need of some absorbing existence on the walls. The echo is too much. I know some people like the bare & blank look, but something would be nice that is still simplistic & useful. There needs to be something to block the cold if you dare sit anywhere near the doors that let in the cold drafts that disturbs your meal with a huge chill up your spine. If this restaurant wants to beat the odds of all that have come before, learn from their mistakes. They need to take into account that although some people that live out here enjoy the foo-froo, the clientele that will keep you open year round are the majority and are real people that just want GOOD FOOD, GOOD PRICES, without the fluff. The fluff will not keep you around,it will only make you a temporary tenant that has yet again left a layer of paint on the walls, ready for the next person to come in and have their go at it. Put DINER back in Diner. Don't B a Letdown!
