Montauk Airport Up for Sale

Just one bedroom and one bath for $18 million?

Oh wait, it's an airport. .

Montauk Airport is up for sale, according to a listing on Hamptons Real Estate Online. Curbed Hamptons featured the listing Monday, adding that the sale hopefully "avoid(s) the issues that have been plaguing the one in East Hampton."

The property measures just over 37 acres, and according to the HREO listing, is surrounded by over 1,000 preserved acres. The runway is 3,200 feet long and the property comes with a 45-foot by 32-foot hanger.

However more than a single bedroom and bathroom could be attainable.

Ronald White, one of the Prudential Douglas Elliman listing agents holding the listing, said on Tuesday morning that while maintaining the current use would be ideal, the site offers the opportunity for residential development.

"I think common goal is to preserve the property being airport. The vast majority of people woud like to kept as an airport. But the other option is to subdivide it and to residentialize."

The property is zoned A-5, which permits single-family homes. Though he added that he only foresees three to six lots in the property, should someone ever decide to go that route.

White said in roughly the month the property has been on the market, a couple interested parties in the airport happen to be individuals who fly into and out of there.
