Golden Eagle Will Close in September

In existence since 1954, the Golden Eagle's space was leased by another business, the owners say.

The Golden Eagle is packing up its art supplies at the end of summer.

The East Hampton Village business announced in an email to customers and on its Facebook page Thursday that the store will close on Sept. 30.

"We have just been informed that our landlord has leased the space to another tenant," Nancy and Tom Rowan said. "We would like to take this opportunity to thank the community for all your support over the past 12 years."

The art supply store is located at 14 Gingerbread Lane in the village, and plans to stay open as usual through the end of its lease.

Established in 1954, the Golden Eagle is the oldest arts store on the South Fork, according to the business web site. It touted clients such as Jackson Pollack and Willem de Kooning.

"We carry a comprehensive selection of high quality art supplies paints, including brand such as Old Holland, Gamblin, Williamsburg, Golden, Holbein, Arches, Strathmore, R&F and DaVinci, just to name a few," the site said. The store also offers art classes.
