East End Business Book: Frozen Yogurt Hits the North Fork

Workmen are busy at the site of the new All Star Lanes Bowling Alley on Route 58 in Riverhead -- and are on schedule for a summer opening.

On Friday, co-owner Chris Smith, who was on-site supervising workmen that were busy both inside and out, said while there is no firm opening date yet, he believes the bowling alley will be ready for business by late July or early August.

East Hampton

Niko Krommydas, beer blogger for Long Island Pulse magazine, recently took a trip to the end of Long Island to feature local brewers at Montauk Brewing Company.

Situated on South Erie Avenue, the three-man operation recently opened the doors to its tasting room at the end of June, offering up its flagship - and as of now, its only offering - Driftwood Ale, an American-style extra special bitter that co-founder Vaughn Cutillo told Pulse is "just so easy to drink."


In a recent list released by Zagat, two North Fork restaurants — Southold's  and Wading River's La Plage — took the top two spots in "The 10 Best Restaurants in the Hamptons" list.

Dave's Grill in Montauk checked in as the top-rated South Fork restaurant, followed by Starr Boggs, Mirko's and .

North Fork

Frozen yogurt has invaded Mattituck and Greenport.

Yogurt Expressions and FroYopia are two new self-serve frozen yogurt shops that opened last month. Each are run under separate independent ownership, providing each community an alternative to traditional ice cream.

Westhampton-Hampton Bays

Shinnecock Yacht Club Mark 125 Years 

The 250-member strong , which sits at the end of Niamogue Lane in Quogue, marked their 125th anniversary on Sunday with a celebration at their headquarters.

The yacht club, according to an article published by 27east, was founded in 1887 with its simple clubhouse built in 1901. The club has since grown to be known as a sailor's haven where members race their boats for fun on the weekends.
