East Hampton High School News


        A big thank-you goes out to everyone who contributed to the bake sale for the Philippine Red Cross. Over $1000 was raised.
        Students represented East Hampton High School at the 8th Annual Black Film Festival that was held in Southampton earlier this month.  The students watched a screening of the Central Park Five Case, which documented the story of the five young males (African American and Hispanic) who were accused of kidnapping, raping, and assaulting the Central Park female jogger in 1986. The students were captivated by the film as the details of the case poured across the screen, and all of them commented that it was a great evening. It was a poignant moment when they got a chance to speak with and hear from one of the five, Yusef Salaam.  PHOTOS 
        Several art students have completed a special afterschool workshop on life figure drawing with artist Linda Capello. 
        The National Art Honor Society at East Hampton High School  has been working with other clubs and associations to collaborate on an Anti-Bias Mural for the school hall. Internationally known artist Camille Perrotet has donated her time to work with the students to create a series of panels to highlight awareness  to prevent bullying and prejudice in the school community. The members of the NAHS have submitted several ideas for the panels.
        Students are fundraising for Camerata’s trip to Italy with a blowout yard sale on the ground of the Middle School on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will also be serving baked goods, hot chocolate, and coffee.
        The East End Edible Garden group was hosted by the high school for the first time last Wednesday. Guests were shown slides of the progress of the school’s garden, and served pumpkin soup and fresh mint tea made the members.
        The Jazz Band is holding a Christmas wreath sale this week. The wreaths, which are 22-24 inches with pine cones and a red bow, are $25 each and available for pick up at the high school Dec. 3 through the 6th.
        The Student Association attended a weekend conference in Buffalo for the New York State Council of Leadership and Student Activities. Founded in 1987, the New York State Council on Leadership and Student Activities (NYS CLSA) has helped to foster leadership skills among both high school and middle school students throughout New York State. Created by students and their advisors, CLSA offers students the opportunity to learn, share and network with their peers in a safe and supervised environment. PHOTO
        PSAT and mock exam score back night will be held at the school on Thursday, Dec. 5, in the auditorium starting at 6 p.m.
        The next principal-parent brown bag breakfast will be held on Dec. 18, and the subject will be the common core standards.
