Adult Ed Classes Begin Next Week!

Here is a list of the upcoming courses, and the way to reach the instructors.
Please share this information -- we have no advertising budget this year. Also, keep an eye out for a full-page ad in the October 9th issue of The Independent!

REGISTRATION: Please contact instructors at the numbers or emails listed to reserve the course of your choice. Classes run from October 8 to December 19, 2013, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, unless otherwise noted. ALL CLASSES WILL BE HELD AT EAST HAMPTON MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS.  If a class is cancelled due to insufficient registration, the instructor will notify you. Admission is on a first come, first served basis.

STORMS & OTHER CANCELLATIONS: Classes will be cancelled if school is closed due to snow. Please check the radio and television for school closings in inclement weather. If an instructor needs to cancel a class for another reason, instructors will notify students.

 

PAYMENT: Make checks payable to instructors on or before first night of class.

There can be no refunds once a class has started.

 

ACTING CLASS: THE I’VE-NEVER-ACTED-BEFORE THEATRE WORKSHOP, Kerry McCarthy, Middle School Auditorium

Tues., 6:30-9 p.m. 10/8 – 1/21 (12 sessions)

Actress Kerry McCarthy has worked with such stars as Elizabeth Taylor, Vincent Price, and Spike Lee – now she wants to work with you! There is no audition, no experience needed, and no reason to be nervous. You’ll receive personal instruction and step-by-step rehearsal for a special performance with family and friends invited to attend. Memorization is not required, and the emphasis is always on how much fun theatre can be. Fee: $125. BASIC DRAWING: SIMPLIFIED & FUN, Karyn Mannix, Room 22

Wed., 6-8 p.m.  10/16, 10/23, 10/30, 11/06

Drawing for beginners and others who may want to freshen up on their skills, taught by award-winning local gallery owner Karyn Mannix. Learn the basic techniques of proportion, form, perspective, and shadowing. A final project will be discussed in class. FEE: $100, with additional materials $20. BRIDGE FOR BEGINNERS, Dr. George Aman, Room 77

Experience the greatest, most challenging card game ever. This course is designed for those who have little or no knowledge of Bridge or players who have forgotten much of what they once knew. You will be introduced to bidding and the play of the hand. Dr. Aman is a certified ACBL teacher, Bridge Life Master, and owner of the East Hampton Duplicate Bridge Club. FEE: $100. Learn to use the mouse and keyboard and receive an introduction to word processing using Microsoft Word 2010. Write a letter, cut, paste, and save text, and access various programs. In this spreadsheet application, we will create lists, sort and summarize data, build tables, use formulas, relative references, filter data, make charts and graphics, and create dynamic worksheets using pivot tables. QuickBooks is the simplest and most popular finance/accounting software. This introductory course will cover creating a company file, working with lists, setting up bank accounts, paying bills, selling products and services, and creating reports. FEE: $75. A continuation of Computer Friendly. Learn to effectively use Microsoft Word and Office 2010. Explore menus and toolbars, do a mail merge, format documents, margins, tabs, create outlines, macros, format tables, use spell check, and organize work by creating new folders and deleting files. PHOTOSHOP ELEMENTS I & ELEMENTS II, KarenLise Bjerring, Room 11

Photoshop Elements is a robust software program that makes it easy to edit, create, and share your photos. This course will cover organizing photos and applying keyword tags, importing from cameras, videos, and pdfs, adjusting lighting, color and exposure, cleaning the scene of unwanted elements, combining images, using adjustment layers, repairing and retouching, and creating a slide show or greeting card from your photos.
