UPDATE: Coast Guard Searches for Missing Fisherman John Aldridge

The missing man was last seen standing watch on the Anna Mary off of Montauk Point on Tuesday at 9 p.m., the Coast Guard says.

Update, 11:40 a.m.: While U.S. Coast Guard continues its search for a missing fishermen off of Montauk Point on Wednesday, they have released his identity. 

A search is underway for John Aldridge, who was working on the Anna Mary, a 44-foot lobster vessel out of Montauk, when he disappeared. According to the Coast Guard, Aldridge was last seen at 9 p.m. on Tuesday, when he was standing watch, and was reported missing at 6:30 Wednesday morning. 

According to communications from the Coast Guard on the VHF radio, Aldridge was supposed to wake his relief up at 11:30 p.m., after a two-and-a-half hour wheel watch. 

Aldridge is described as a 5-foot, 9-inch tall man, weighing 150 pounds and was last seen wearing a t-shirt, shorts and sandals during his watch relief. He was not wearing a life jacket when he went missing.

In addition to Coast Guard cutters and rescue helicopters, other fishing boats have joined in the effort to help find Aldridge.

Previously, 9:30 a.m.: Crews from Coast Guard Station Montauk are searching for a commercial fisherman who went missing while out at sea near Montauk on Wednesday morning.

According to the Coast Guard, a local fisherman reported a male fisherman had gone missing from the Anna Mary, out of Montauk, about five miles south of Montauk Point. Watchstanders at Sector Long Island Sound in New Haven, Conn., were notified at about 6:30 a.m., they said.

"The man was last seen when he assumed watch on the vessel at approximately 9 p.m., Tuesday," the Coast Guard said in a statement.

He was part of a three-person crew hauling up lobster traps, the Coast Guard said. They were not sure how long the vessel had been out at sea.

The Coast Guard offered no further description of the man, however, they said it was reported that he was not wearing a life jacket.

Two rescue boat crews stationed in Montauk, the Cutter Sailfish from Sandy Hook, N.J., and two rescue helicopters from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod in Cape Cod, Mass. are assisting in the search.
