Sag Harbor Man Charged with DWI in Route 114 Crash

East Hampton Town police say 6-year-old injured Saturday is in serious condition.

The driver of a pick-up truck that police said crashed into a BMW Saturday evening in East Hampton, seriously injuring a mother and her 6-year-old child, has been arrested on a driving while intoxicated charge.

William Hurley, 60, of Sag Harbor, allegedly swerved over the double yellow line on Route 114, near Deer Haven Court, hitting the BMW, East Hampton Town police said.

Elizabeth Krimendahl, a 53-year-old from New York City, was seriously injured and had to be extricated from the sedan. She was flown to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Her six-year-old was initially taken to Southampton Hospital, and has been transferred to Stony Brook. Police said the child is in serious condition.

Hurley was also taken to Southampton, and then to Stony Brook. He is also in serious condition, police said.

He was charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and was released on an appearance ticket due to his injuries. He will be arraigned at a later date.

Police impounded both vehicles after reconstructing the accident. Route 114 was shut down for nearly five hours.

Detectives have asked that anyone with information about the crash to please call 631-537-7575.

Nearly one year ago to the day, Krimendahl and her then 5-year-old son Thaddeus — believed to be the same child injured in Saturday's crash — were taken to the hospital after they were struck in the crosswalk. Sag Harbor Village police said the mother and son were hit while crossing Bay Street in front of the Sag Harbor gym on July 8, 2012. They suffered minor injuries, Patch reported at the time.

The driver was making a turn from Division Street onto Bay Street and said she did not see them, police said.
