UPDATE: Firefighters Quickly Doused Blaze, Neighbor Says

East Hampton firefighters responded, along with the Amagansett Rapid Intervention Team.

Update: East Hampton firefighters made a quick stop on a house fire in Whalebone Woods on Friday night, according to the next door neighbor.

Barry Forde said he smelled smoke and started looking for the source when he saw the first firefighters arrive on Bow Oarsman Road. "I wasn't sure what was burning," Forde said. "When I looked outside, it went up in flames as the fire department arrived. It happened that fast," he said.

The fire damaged 74 Bow Oarsman Road, a two-story saltbox house at the intersection of Tub Oarsman Road.

No one was believed to be inside the house when the fire broke out. Forde said he thinks the house was being renovated.

"The fire department was here fast. I am glad they got here fast — flames were coming out of the roof," said Forde, who said his house is about 70 feet away. He could see flames from his yard. "Definitely thanks to them all."

Firefighters — included the Amagansett Rapid Intervention Team, which was also called out — were headed back to the firehouse at about 11:15 p.m.
