Coast Guard Searches Waters off Montauk for Missing Boater

Woman, 39, fell overboard in Block Island Sound, Coast Guard says.

Another search is underway off Montauk Point for a person who fell overboard overnight.

A woman was reported missing off a recreational boat in the Block Island Sound about two and a half miles off Montauk Point at about midnight Sunday, according to the Coast Guard.

The search comes just two weeks after a Montauk fisherman fell overboard during a night watch on the "Anna Mary" as it was trolling about five miles off Montauk Point.

Twelve hours later, John Aldridge was found floating and clinging to his boots, as part of a flotation device he made, 43 miles south of Montauk Point. Aldridge was badly sunburned and dehydrated, but alive.

Sunday morning, Petty Officer Josh Garsik said the search for the boater is ongoing, and also involves East Hampton Marine Patrol and a rescue helicopter out of Cape Cod Air Station.

The missing woman was not wearing a life vest. She is approximately 39 years old, Garsik said. Her name has not been released yet.

No further information about the vessel was released.
