The Annual Vote to Support The Parrish Art Museum & Hearings

The Parrish Art Museum invites the community to Public Hearings in support of the annual tax levy at the Museum on Thursday, April 3 at 4 p.m., and Sunday, April 6, at 1:30 p.m.

The annual vote will be held at the museum on Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from noon to 8 p.m.

For more than 40 years, voters of the Southampton Union Free School District have approved the museum’s request for funding to help underwrite programming. This is the seventh year the museum has not increased the amount of funding requested.

Despite having kept the requested amount of the levy to $326,509.00—which translates to just $1.50 per $100,000 of assessed property value—the Parrish has vastly increased the scope of its programming since opening at the new location in Water Mill. The levy represents seven percent of the museum’s $4.9 million operating budget.

In 2013, the museum’s education department served more than 1,500 children and families, 2,100 students, and 1,000 adults with public programs as well as hundreds of group, public, and school tours and about 150 on- and off-site workshops as well as a full summer art camp curriculum.

Additionally, the funding helps underwrite the cost of the annual Student Art Exhibition, free after-school art programs with priority registration for resident taxpayers and unlimited free visits to the museum for school groups from Tuckahoe and Southampton.
