Springs Native Claims Second Poker World Series Title

Athanasios Polychronopoulos wins second gold bracelet in three years.

A Springs native won his second gold bracelet at the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas on Tuesday morning.

Athanasios "Tom" Polychronopoulos won an astounding $518,755 and the coveted gold bracelet in the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em tournament Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino.

"The player with the longest name in poker," as Online Poker News referred to him, won his first gold bracelet in 2011 when he took home $650,223 at the 2011 World Series of Poker. In fact, he brought his 2011 bracelet along for good luck.

Polychronopoulos, who is 29 and started playing poker in 2003, won on Tuesday after defeating 2,105 players over three days, according to the World Series of Poker.

"I'm blessed," Polychronopoulos told Poker News after the win. "Life is good, there's not much more to say."

Many know his family, which owned Gordon's, now closed, in Amagansett.

Tens of thousands of poker players compete for millions of dollars in prize money and 62 World Series of Poker champion bracelets, according to the AP.
