Photos: Literary Stars Light Up East Hampton at Authors Night

Gwyneth Paltrow, Marcus Samuelsson, Nelson DeMille and A.M. Homes are just of a few of the writers who joined the benefit for East Hampton Library.

All types of writers, from novelists and biographers to the penners of children's stories and self-help books, gathered in East Hampton Village Saturday for the ninth annual Authors Night, benefiting East Hampton Library.

The event drew both local and nationally renowned authors and celebrities.

At the Gardiner Farm on James Lane, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeffrey Lyons, Frank Savage, Lidia Bastianich, Sylvia Day, A.M. Homes, Marcus Samuelsson, Lidia Bastianich, Clive Davis and Dr. Ruth, just to name a handful, signed their books.

Among the guests were former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, the astronaut.

Among the authors with a local connection is Katie Beers, who grew up in East Hampton after her kidnapping ordeal in Bay Shore captured national attention 20 years ago. Now 30, she broke her silence with the release earlier this year of "Buried Memories: Katie Beers' Story," which she wrote with CBS reporter Carolyn Gusoff.

From Southampton, artist Art Donovan represented his book, "The Art of Steampunk."  Southampton Village architecture blogger Sally Spanburgh presented her book, "The Southampton Cottages of Gin Lane: The Original Hamptons Summer Colony." Barbara Jude Frerichs, of Sag Harbor, was there with her new book, "What My Dog Has Taught Me About Men." Phil Keither, of Southampton, signed his book, "Black Horse Riders," and Michael Paraskevas signed his latest, "Taffy Saltwater's Yummy Summer Day."
