Lynn's Hula Hut Brings Mardi Gras To Montauk Little Early

Lynn's Hula Hut At 426 Westlake Dr., Montauk Marine basin, Has a wild weekend planned. On Thursday, local singer song writer Ed Casher will play from 5 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday the second annual Midway to Mardi Gras party will be held

Midway to Mardi Gras, brainchild of owner Lynn Calvo, Will feature live music from 5 to 9 p.m. played by Peter Novelli and drummer Darryl White as well as a special guest. Food will be provided by Lucky J's, featuring gumbo, red beans and rice and their special voodoo shrimp. Calvo refers to her vision of creating a New Orleans Montauk fusion called "mola".

As always on weekends, the Hula hut will offer a make-your-own Bloody Mary bar featuring items like horseradish pickles, freshly caught crab and shrimp and Slim Jim's from noon to 4 p.m.

Visitors can also swill Calvo's homemade infusions featuring vodkas, tequilas and rums steeped for a minimum of 10 days in a variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Popular beverages include the mellow yellow, featuring a mix of vodka, Madagascar vanilla beans and pineapple. And the whole of juice with a mix of four different rums – coconuts dark spiced and light – and pineapple served with a float of dark rum, ginger beer and pineapple juice.

Calvo, the daughter of a local lobsterman, opened the Hula Hut last year following two and a half years of permitting debacles.

Linda's hula hut is open seven days a week from noon to 10 p.m., And serves local food such as dumplings shrimp cocktail and chicken lemongrass sandwiches.
