This past autumn marked the 75th anniversary of Judy Garland's feature film debut (Pigskin Parade, 1936). It was the onset of a motion picture career ultimately unsurpassed in its timeless, classic amalgam of singing, dancing, comedy, and drama. In celebration, The Film Society of Lincoln Center joins forces with Guild Hall to present screenings of several of her best-loved films, tracing a career that seems as vibrant today as it did half a century ago. Don’t miss these opportunities to share what critics have ceaselessly called the “magic” of Judy Garland.

“A warmly human entertainment which has captured a nostalgic charm rarely, if ever, equaled on screen”
—The Hollywood Reporter
Four seasons in the life of The Smiths pass in day-to-day joy and tribulation—from summer 1903 up to the opening of the 1904 World’s Fair. But teen romances, dead dolls, and a dream existence (in a Minnelli-crafted, turn of the century home) are threatened when Mr. Smith announces the family’s imminent move from St. Louis to New York City.
The timeless Hugh Martin/Ralph Blane score includes “The Trolley Song,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” and “The Boy Next Door.” A justly celebrated cast features the amazing Margaret O’Brien, Mary Astor, Tom Drake, Marjorie Main, Leon Ames, Lucille Bremer, Harry Davenport, Joan Carroll, and June Lockhart.

Talkback to follow with Richard Peña, Scott Foundas and other critics and connoisseurs of Judy Garland.
