ABSTRACTION: Selections from the Guild Hall Museum Permanent Collection

In keeping with the East End’s long association with the Abstract Expressionist Movement, we will be showcasing Abstract Expressionist works from Guild Hall Museum’s Permanent Art Collection.  According to Enez Whipple, “The summer of 1949 is best remembered for our having introduced Guild Hall audiences to Jackson Pollock and other Abstract Expressionists in the show ‘Seventeen Artists of Eastern Long Island.’” This current exhibition will highlight many of the first generation Abstract Expressionist artists from that exhibition and others who followed in that art tradition.  Works by Jackson Pollock, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning and Ibram Lassaw will be included.

Museum Hours: Friday & Saturday 11am-5pm; Sunday 12-5pm
