#Busted: Fashion Writer in East Hampton Instagram SNAFU

A tipster pointed Gawker in the direction of a Condé Nast employee who spent last weekend on a boondoggle in East Hampton—and documented every moment of it on Instagram, much to his eventual chagrin. For once Condé Nast set eyes on the photos of their young reporter clad in his weekend costume he was told to take down the evidence of his weekend in the Hamptons.

Flying in the face of a company policy not to accept free swag, meals or accommodations, the young fashion reporter, David Yi, a staff reporter at WWD, was later forced to take down all his posts once Condé Nast discovered them.

The weekend getaway was courtesy of The Social Co. which put him and the rest of the guests up at c/o The Maidstone. Evidence via Instagram suggests he probably looked out at the swans while sitting on a fur covered porch chair. Cozy!

It seems a Condé Nast spokesperson told Gawker:

“WWD has long-standing policies in place that ensure editorial integrity. David Yi was in attendance at the event in question, but as a guest of a personal friend and not in a reporting capacity. There were no free clothes or gifts distributed. While we feel that no conflict of interest existed in this situation, the appearance of it is just as serious. As a result, we will deal with the matter internally.”
