Actors to Honor Tennessee Williams at Guild Hall

Performers to read selections from plays and personal memoirs to celebrate the writer, who would have turned 100 years old in 2011.

On Friday, celebrities will honor the late playwright Tennessee Williams, who would have been 100 years old this year, in a show that draws upon essays, letters, journals and plays written by the iconic American writer.

The show, "Tennessee at 100: Readings and Reminiscence Celebrating Tennessee Williams," goes on at 8 p.m. and was compiled by actor Harris Yulin and American playwright Jack Canfora, according to Barbara Jo Howard, director of marketing and communications at Guild Hall.

Williams was best known for plays such as "A Streetcar Named Desire," "The Glass Menagerie," and "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof."

“Tennessee at 100” stars actors Eli Wallach, Mercedes Ruehl, Yulin, and Justine Lupe-Schomp, and tickets cost between $28 and $30.

Wallach began his extensive film career by appearing in the film adaptation of Williams' play "Baby Doll" in 1956, and won a Tony award for his role in Williams' play "The Rose Tattoo." On the big screen, Wallach has worked aside legends such as Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable in "The Misfits," and Clint Eastwood in "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly."

Ruehl won an Academy Award for her role in The Fisher King, and played Serafina Delle Rose in "The Rose Tattoo" on Broadway in 1995. Yulin's film credits include "Scarface" and "Clear and Present Danger." Yulin has a long stage career as well, and has played roles such as Mr. Van Daan in "The Diary of Anne Frank." in New York in 1997. Lupe-Schomp has performed under the direction of Yulin in "Proof," written by David Auburn while she attended Julliard and has performed in the Williamstown Theatre Festival.
