'Through The Years' Shines Light on Amagansett's Role in the Arts

The Amagansett Historical Society has brought together a collection of works by artists from or inspired by Amagansett.

The Amagansett Historical Society will present its second annual “Amagansett Art Across The Years” show, starting Aug. 9 and running until Sept. 15.

The show will feature and also sell the work of 40 artists, who are either from Amagansett or drew considerable inspiration from the hamlet. 

Among the notable contributions are photographs by Elliott Erwitt, works from abstract expressionist John Opper, and paintings by Vincent Longo. The other artists featured are, Richard Baxter, Nicole Bigar, Zoe Pennebaker Breen, Ralph Carpentier, Lucy Cookson, Susan D'Alessio, Kate Davis, Victoria Fensterer, Nina Gillman, Burt Glinn, Durell Godfrey, Sue Gussow, Hope Harris, Toby Haynes, Janet Jennings, Teri Kennedy, Doug Kuntz, Elizabeth Levine, Rick LIss, Steve Loschen, Ngaere Macray, Morgan McGivern, Aaron Monet, Pamela Morgan, Michelle Murphy, Gosta Peterson, Zak Powers, Ray Prohaska, Denise Regan, Susan Wood Richardson, Ken Robbins, Anne Seelbach, Sarah Stacke, David Stiles, Jeanie Stiles, Strong-Cuevas, Michelle Stuart, David Suter, Veronika Vogler, Rosario Varela, and Lew Zacks.

“The show serves to bring attention to the role Amagansett has played in the on going story of art on the East End," Nina Gillman, a participant and Amagansett Historical Society board member, said.

The show will be on display at the Jackson Carriage House, behind Miss Amelia's Cottage, at the corner of Main Street and Windmill Lane in Amagansett. Admission is free, and visitors will be able to see the work Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Labor Day and Saturdays and Sundays after that. The show will be open from 2 to 6 p.m.
