Readers Remember Reverend Hopson

The entire East Hampton community mourns the loss of the Rev. Charles E. Hopson.

The , the pastor of the in East Hampton and East Hampton Town Police Department chaplain, died unexpectedly on Monday. He was 59.

, of the Amagansett Presbyterian Church said, "This is sad news, indeed. Pastor Hopson was a fine man. He will be missed. His family and his congregation are in my prayers."

wrote, "I worked with Earl at the Bridgehamptpn Child Care Center from1974 to 1980. We were Community VISTA's(Volunteers In Service to America). Even as a young man he was a leader in his community/preaching to the children hope and faith. Sheila and he were high school sweethearts and a team forever. You made a difference and will be missed."

said, "As Co-Chairs of the East Hampton Anti-Bias Task force, Rev. Hobson and I shared both friendship and a committment to level the playing field for all of our East Hampton neighbors. Rest in peace Charles..you made a difference."

said, "So sorry to hear of Earl's passing. The community's of BH & EH has lost a wonderful person as has his family. RIP Earl, I know you will be continuing your work with HIM. Sheila and their families will be in our prayers."

They were always special and we always gathered at the end to sing together. We felt transformed, connected, hopeful."
