1. Judge Puts Sexual Predator Away for 20 to LifeDA's office recommended 50 years to life for man who rape children under 12

Fidel Castro-Brito, nabbed in the biggest sex abuse investigation ever handled by East Hampton Town police, was sentenced on Friday to 20 years to life behind bars. In May, Castro-Brito pleaded guilty to 76 felonies, covering two indictments, related to child sex abuse. 

2. Swimmer Nearly Drowns at Main Beach

A swimmer is in critical condition after police and a bystander revived him on Thursday afternoon, East Hampton Village police said on Friday. 

3. State Awards Town $500k Due to Financial Recovery Plan

East Hampton Town officials announced Wednesday that the state awarded the town $536,425 in recognition of its financial recovery plan. The money will be pumped back into the government's structure, as it is earmarked for a state-of-the-art, open-floor-plan workspace proposed for the old Town Hall building. 

4. Feds: Couple Smuggled Immigrants, Forced Them to Work in 7-Eleven

Authorities on Monday indicted nine people from New York and Virginia – including a Head of the Harbor couple – for smuggling illegal immigrants into the country and forcing them to work long hours for minimal pay at several Long Island 7-Eleven stores, including one in Sag Harbor.

5. Cops: No Criminal Charges for Driver in Bicycle Fatality

The driver whose vehicle ran over and killed a 14-year-old bicyclist on Saturday in East Hampton Village won't be charged criminally, police said.
