Week in Review: EMS Crews Ready To Go on Standby; Art Lost in the Mail

1. 
New Plan Puts Duty EMS Crews on Standby for the Summer

Come July 1, at least one emergency medical technician and an ambulance will be on standby, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., to respond to calls within the six fire districts that make up the Town of East Hampton, from Montauk Point to Water Mill, the western-most point of Bridgehampton Fire District. 

2. Feds Accept Town Letter Over Ditch Plains Trademark

A protest by East Hampton Town over a private company's attempt to trademark "Ditch Plains" – the name of the renowned Montauk beach known best for its surfing – has been accepted by the federal government, and will be reviewed further before possibly rejecting the trademark application.

3. Craig Claiborne Exhibit Lost In Transit

Seems one of the oldest excuses around is to blame for stalling East Hampton Historical Society’s summer exhibit originally set for on the life and work of cookbook writer and food critic Craig Claiborne: It got lost in the mail.


4. Political Race Heats Up Early On

It might be months away from local election season, but it's already heating up along with the weather, as a new ad from local Democrats aimed at incumbent Republican Councilman Dominick Stanzione hit the airwaves recently – as did a volley from the Independence Party defending him.

Venomous Man o' War Wash Up on East Hampton Beaches

John Ryan Jr., the chief of the East Hampton Town lifeguards, said a southwest storm, which has caused the ocean waters to become five-degrees warmer than last week, brought the species inshore. Ryan said 18 man o'wars were found out on Montauk beaches on Friday, and then four or five were found on Atlantic Avenue Beach and Indian Wells Beach in Amagansett on Saturday morning.
