1.
Dems Support Screening Committee Town Board Recs

Rumors had circulated that the party's 2011 supervisor candidate, Zachary Cohen, and chairwoman of the Quiet Skies Coalition, Kathleen Cunningham, would be pulling nominations from the floor to get the party's nods for town board – and while the rumors turned out to be true, the candidates recommended by the party's screening committee still won support of the committee. Find out what else went down at the convention on Wednesday.

2. East Hampton Village Passes Restriction for Dogs on the Beach

Come July 1, Fido must be on a leash within 300 feet of an East Hampton Village beach entrance. At its regular meeting on Friday, the village board approved an amendment to the code that requires dog owners to keep their dogs on a leash from the second Sunday in May to September 30 of each year. During that same time frame, an already existing law prohibits dogs, and other animals, on the beach between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m.

3. GLBT Center Finds Temporary Home in Sag Harbor

Just six months after beginning a fundraising campaign for a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community center on the East End, a Long Island organization will open in temporary digs this summer.

4. Nuzzi Receives GOP Nomination, Will Face Schneiderman

It's official — Southampton Town Councilman Chris Nuzzi is the Republicans' pick to attempt to unseat incumbent Suffolk County Legislator Jay Schneiderman. Nuzzi, a Westhampton Beach resident and member of the Republican Party, received the Suffolk County Republican Committee's nomination Tuesday in an uncontested vote.

5. Amanda Glorioso Lee, 24, Dies in New York City

Amanda Lee had a Chinese tattoo that meant "fighter," a word that summed up her short 24 years. Lee died on Tuesday night at Bellevue Hospital in New York City, according to her best friend Bethany Trowbridge, of East Hampton. She had been in hospice care since Friday after a long illness.
