Wake for Donald Alversa To Be Held Thursday

Montauk fisherman died Saturday after he was injured on a fishing boat off the coast of North Carolina.

Services for Donald Alversa, the 24-year-old fisherman who died Saturday night, will begin on Thursday.

His brother, Kenneth Alversa, said a wake will be held at Yardley & Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m.

His family is still working out details for a funeral. Please check back for that information as it becomes available.

Donald Alversa, who was raised and resided in Montauk, died from injuries he sustained while working aboard a commercial fishing vessel, off the coast of North Carolina, on Saturday night.

Coast Guard Petty Officer 1st Class Brandyn Hill said Alversa had head and neck injuries after a wire on the commercial fishing vessel parted. He was airlifted off the 90-foot dragger and transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died.

The Coast Guard is investigating how the accident occurred.
