Saturday's Sandcastle Contest Brings Creativity To the Beach

The 22nd annual East Hampton Sandcastle Contest was held on Saturday on Atlantic Beach in Amagansett, and despite overcast skies, plenty showed up to show their skills when it goes to carving objects out of sand. 

There were five groups for participants to enter in: Sand Fleas for children up to age 8 with one adult leader; Sand Hoppers for ages 9-15; Sand Tribes for families; Sand Shapers for adults and Sand Pros for professionals. 

The money raised through registration fees, sale of tee-shirts, merchandise and other donations go to helping a variety of charitable causes promoted and assisted by The Clamshell Foundation. 

Here are the winners: 

Sand Fleas (Up to 8 years old):

1st Place: Quiana, Lucas and Jackson Rode, Hunter Hemingway and JD Uribe 

2nd Place: Luke and Darryl Schaffer 

3rd Place: Greg Shields, Liam and Mia and Lauren 

Sand Hoppers (9-15 years old):

1st Place: Kyle Malisee and Brett MacDonald 

2nd Place: Ava, Lyla and Sadie Foreman, Chloe Haines and Mia Juneja 

3rd Place: Zachary Schisgal and the Fireplace Gang 

Sand Tribes (Families):

1st Place: Lois Nilsen, Lars, Karin, Kris, Erika, and Annalicia 

2nd Place: Jake Magaldi, Julia, Will, Mom and Dad 

3rd Place: Ella, Grace, Emily and Ken – the Ivory D’s 

Sand Shapers (Adults):

1st Place: Salty Steve, Placido, Chi Chi, Wendy, Judi and Isabel 

2nd Place: Paul Green 

3rd Place: Caroline Lang 

Sand Pros (You know who you are):

1st Place: Tom and Beth Tailer, Hannah and thomas Whitehall 

2nd Place: Floyd, Caroline and Kate Linton, Cabb, Kyle and Lucas Capo-Hogan 

3rd Place: Art Knapp
