Up to 3 Inches of Snow Expected To Hit Long Island Tuesday

The heaviest snowfall is expected around midday Tuesday.

Get out the snow shovels: Up to three inches of snow are expected to fall on Long Island Tuesday.

According to Joey Picca, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Upton, a low pressure system will be approaching the area from the west, heading east on Tuesday morning.

Snow is expected to begin Tuesday morning and intensify, with the heaviest snowfall expected around midday.

Between two and three inches are expected, with some areas across Long Island possibly seeing higher accumulations.

The snow should taper off from western to eastern Long Island during the late afternoon and into the early evening hours.

Temperatures on Tuesday are expected to hover around the 30s, with winds ranging from 10 to 15 miles per hours.

Monday night's temps will range from the upper 20s to low 30s, with light snow expected to begin around sunrise and fall in earnest between 7 to 10 a.m. in western Suffolk, and in the late morning hours on the East End, according to the NWS.
