This Weekend: Looking for Mr. Amagansett on Groundhog Day

A roundup of what's happen Feb. 1 to 3.

The weekend is here and it's not all about the groundhog. Saturday is Groundhog Day, but whether Holbrook Hal sees his shadow or not, there's plenty to keep this winter weekend fun and entertaining.

Friday

HEALTH FAIR: The South Fork Community Health Initiative offers a free community health fair at the Most Holy Trinity school building from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Refreshments will be served. Glucose and cholesterol screenings, blood pressure screening, nutrition counseling, BMI measurements, HIV/AIDS testing, and food stamp applications are among the services provided.

CONCERT: The inaugural Gregg Rickards Memorial Scholarship Fund concert will be held at East Hampton High School at 7 p.m Price: Admission is free, but donations are requested

Saturday

MEETING: The Wainscott Citizens Advisory Committee will meet at the Wainscott Chapel at 9 a.m.

BOOK DISCUSSION: The Saturday book club at the East Hampton Library will discuss "Winterdance: The Fine Madness of Running the Iditarod," by Gary Paulsen, at 10:30 a.m.

BACKYARD BIRD BRUNCH: Since February is National Bird Feeding Month, learn how to transform your backyard into a friendly feeding spot for wintering birds. Meet at the Hither Hill State Park Visitor's Center at 11 a.m. Make a reservation.

GROUNDHOG POP-UP: Story and craft time at the Amagansett Library on Saturday will be all about the Groundhog. Starts at 3:30 p.m.

TAKE YOUR CHILD TO THE LIBRARY DAY: Stop by anytime for crafts and games for all ages at the Montauk Library between noon and 4 p.m.

AUTHOR TALK: Linda Goetz Holmes will speak about "Captured: The Forgotten Men of Guam," by Roger Mansell, at East Hampton Library at 3 p.m.

SOUP SUPPER: The East Hampton First Presbyterian Church hosts it annual Super Soup Supper from 4 to 7 p.m. All you can eat homemade soups, salads, drinks, and dessert. Admission includes a free mug. Proceeds will benefit the Deacons’ Fund, the Youth Group's mission trip to Cuba, and local Food Pantries. Price: Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for kids under 10.

ART SHOW: An opening reception for a two-man art show at Ashwagh Hall in Springs will be held on Saturday evening from 5 to 9 p.m. Ray Colleran and Oliver Peterson will present Objects, which examines and celebrates the artists' love of art as fetish, on Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The show will include paintings and sculptural works, as well as a few surprises.

DANCE BREAK: Kick-start your weekend with this light-hearted dance class at Lululemon Athletica in East Hampton Village, taught by Jamie Lerner. Free to the community. Starts at 5:30 p.m.

 SCREENING & TALK: During Teen Dating Violence Awareness month, Amagansett Library will host a screening of a documentary short, "The Girl Next Door - The Story of a Human Trafficking Victim," with director Andrea Picco at 6 p.m. An educator from VIBS will be on hand. Register in advance.

MR. AMAGANSETT: A few good men will compete for the title of Mr. Amagansett at the Stephen Talkhouse on Saturday. All proceeds benefit the Donald T. Sharkey Memorial Community Fund. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Price: A suggested donation of $20

Sunday

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: The Springs Fire Department hosts a pancake breakfast at the firehouse from 7 to 11 a.m. Price: $8 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for children 6 and under

PANCAKE BREAKFAST: St. Luke's Outreach Committee is serving pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. All you can eat pancakes, sausage, apple sauce, juice, coffee or tea. Price: $7
