Coast Guard came to aid of Air National Guard helicopter on a rescue mission off Montauk.

Just as snowflakes and heavy winds rolled out of town, Sunday marks the 20th anniversary of the infamous nor'easter known as the "Perfect Storm."

The storm began as an area of low pressure off the coast of Canada and then peaked on Oct. 30, 1991.

According to the Morning Sentinel, the southern coast of Maine was hit the hardest with waves of 15 to 30 feet. Along the East Coast, there were 13 deaths reported and more than $200 million in damage was caused. Later the subject of a movie, a Gloucester, Mass. swordfish boat, the Andrea Gail, and its crew were lost.
