SHARE: Seal Photos From This Season

Riverhead Foundation responded to Montauk at least twice this week for seal sightings. Where have you spotted one this year?

Seal hikes and seal sightings are a regular occurrence on the South Fork. The folks at the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation are called out to assess seals when we're not sure how the seal is faring.

On Thursday, biologists responded to Montauk to monitor a seal pup, which is left on the beach for monitoring because it was in good body condition and alert. As the team was about to head home, East Hampton Marine Patrol offices received another call about a gray seal in Wainscott. They responded and found the seal was very aggressive and robust in size, so it was also left for monitoring.

They were also out in Montauk on April 8. A male gray seal pup was brought in from Montauk with wounds on its hind flippers.
