Thousands came out for the lighting.

On Saturday, the held its fourth annual lighting of the Lighthouse and thousands of people joined in the celebration of this 215 year old landmark. The Montauk Lighthouse is the fourth oldest Lighthouse in continuous operation in the U.S. and the first Lighthouse built in New York state.

Joe Gaviola, a member of the Lighthouse committee of the Montauk Historical Society, welcomed the visitors and introduced this year's honoree, Bishop Peter A. Libasci who activated "the switch" that turned on the lights. Also in attendance was recently re-elected East Hampton Town Supervisor Bill Wilkinson and the Rev. William Hoffman, Pastor of the Montauk Church.
