Rain Postpones Nazi Landing Reenactment in Amagansett

Beach theatrics will take place Friday at 6:30 p.m. instead.

World War II buffs will have to wait for the Nazi reenactment thanks to the rain.

The Amagansett Life-Saving and Coast Guard Station Advisory Committee had planned a skit to be acted out at the station and beach at Atlantic Avenue on Thursday night, but decided to postpone for what they hope will be better weather on Friday.

Hugh King, the director of the extravaganza, said the production will go on at 6:30 p.m.

The reenactment was to coincide with the 71st anniversary of the night John Cullen, a 21-year-old Coast Guardsman, found Nazi spies on the shoreline. They had just buried explosives, and tried to bribe him with cash. They were eventually caught.

A flood watch is in effect for South Fork. Four inches of rain is expected to fall by Friday. Wind gusts could be as much as 40 to 50 mph. There is a chance of rain on Friday, as well, but the organizers are hoping for the best.

The committee in charge of restoring the station first held a reenactment last year, on the 70th anniversary, but this year's show promises to be bigger and better.
