Question of the Day: Should East Hampton Ban Plastic Bags?

The village wants to follow in Southampton's footsteps.

At a Thursday work session, the East Hampton Village Board discussed from retail shops, grocery stores, and restaurants.

It comes on the heels of , which was met with some resistance, particularly from the supermarket industry and the American Chemistry Council, a plastic lobbyist. Environmental advocates, "green" committees, and some local businesses supported the effort.
