Power Outage Cancels Wednesday Night Show at Bay Street

LIPA says power should be restored Thursday morning.

It's been lights out for Bay Street Theatre — literally.

The theater, located on the corner of Bay Street and the Long Wharf in Sag Harbor Village, and several other businesses in the area have been without power since Wednesday afternoon, which forced them to cancel a performance of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" on Wednesday evening.

Mark Gross, a spokesman for the Long Island Power Authority, said that a large transformer blew on Wednesday. "It was an old ground-mount transformer (not the smaller ones that are up on the poles)," he said. "Because of the size and location it takes longer to replace the transformer and make sure we do any proper cleanup work necessary. We are in the process of bringing in temporary generation for those customers affected."

On its Facebook page, theater staff they were still without power this morning is still without power Thursday. "A generator will be installed this morning. The box office will reopen as soon as the power is back on," they wrote.

The Thursday night show will go on, they said. It begins at 8 p.m.

Those who had tickets to Wednesday night's performance are being asked to call the box office when the power is back on at 631-725-9500 to reschedule.
