PHOTOS: Newtown Memorial Goes Up in Bridgehampton

Twenty six wreaths serve as a memorial for the victims of last week's shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Twenty six wreaths were placed around Founders' Monument in Bridgehampton Thursday evening, one for each victim of last week's shooting in Newtown, Conn.

Organized by Bridgehampton Fire Department First Assistant Chief Gary Horsburgh with the help of his crew, with goods donated from various volunteers, the memorial is a hard one to miss, with "In Loving Memory of Sandy Hook" signs posted at each end, facing traffic coming east and west on Montauk Highway.

"I just feel so sorry for those little kids," Horsburgh said on Thursday. "I found out today one of them wanted to be a firefighter when he grew up. So I said we need to do something."

Horsburgh said Water Mill Building Supply donated the plywood and paint to do up the signs, while Agway donated the wreaths and K-Mart, the 26 bows that decorate them.

Horsburgh added that he was hoping to do a memorial service at some point, though with Christmas fast approaching, putting something together has been difficult, and may revisit the idea after the holiday.

Thank you to those who donated their time and money to do this. Twent-eight people died including the Lanzas. Tortured souls deserve prayers too.

Enough already... what about the dead military men + women who put their life on the line to protect us?? Not even a day is mentioned for them.... but since this is so outrageous + news making it goes on for weeks! HONOR the military more than this reality t.v. ....

Christie Get a life. You really believe mass murder is an entertainment such as reality tv show? Really? Then you desperately need psychiartric care, for you are delusionary. You are a pathetic creature to put suspect patriotism as some kind of rationale to oppose how this stunned nation has reacted in grief to a mass murder of innocents. 6 & 7 yr. olds did not volunteer to join a militia or any war of aggression against anybody as did Al-Queda or U.S. pre-emptive invasion into Iraq. Innocents did not volunteer to become fodder for yr campaign to end shock over insane gun laws of a gun-drenched nation wanting to own weapons they want, from anti-aircraft guns to assault rifles to machine guns. Phony patriotism will not remove the stench of death that has sickened us with the toxic fear, causing civilians, not paid military warriers, to arm themselves. You can stand up for the gun manufacturers & their insatiable greed for more profit, to make even more of a killing off the harm their products are designed for at the expense of our right to liberty, the right to life & rights to protect our children from the gun fetishists who has caused a great deal more death & maiming than any of our paid military have inflicted in such destructive invasions of other nations. Even 74% of NRA members believe we must strenghten gun control & restrictions on gun manufacturing, distribution, sales & ownership of guns & military armaments for our health & safety.

Christie, you are truly a vile, despicable, mess of a human being. You are angry because a memorial was put up to honor 20 murdered children? Stop conflating issues, this has nothing to do with the military. You should be put on a government watch list, in the meantime, I would suggest you deal with your vile anger before you explode in a fireball of hatred and ugliness.

i have only two words for you: Lock + Load. Of course guns should be controlled and not given to mentally insane people. Conservatives already believe that...Thank Jesus you don't have one or should not! There's nothing more unreasonable + dangerous than a leftist.
