Oct. 30: Prepare To Donate, Think About Pet Adoption, and Meet A Candidate

Know your community issues and give back this Saturday.

While it might be easy to get caught up in the Halloween festivities, there's plenty else to do around town today, whether it's preparing to make a donation, adopting a pet, or brushing up on the issues before the election.

1. The East Hampton Town Board will meet at the new town hall for its monthly Saturday meeting at 10 a.m. If you can't make the weekly meetings held during regular business hours, here's a chance to brush up on what's on the board's plate.

2. Need a good book? They've never been so cheap. The East Hampton Library is holding a book sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fiction, non-fiction, biographies, cookbooks, reference books, and children's books are all just $1.

3. If you're in the mood for a drive, head over to Hampton Bays where the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons is hosting an Adopt-a-thon. Cats and kittens, dogs and puppies are looking for homes from a setup at TD Bank at 191 West Montauk Highway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Could be worth the drive for a faithful friend.

4. On Sunday, the Jewish Center of the Hamptons is hosting a one day-only clothing drive for Maureen's Haven, a homeless outreach program providing shelter in the winter months throughout the East End. So today, take some time to pack up gently used or buy new clothing to donate, such as pre-packaged men's white undershirts, women's warm pajamas, pre-packaged men's and women's underwear, pre-packaged socks, coats, boots, gloves, and backpacks. Clothing can be dropped off between 9 a.m. and noon in the center's library.

5. Last chance to get some answers before the election on Tuesday. Congressman Tim Bishop will be the special guest at Babette's Halloween Get Out The Vote party at 7 p.m. Bring your question for the congressman. Complimentary drinks and food will be served, and Alfredo of Radio Europa will provide the music.
