Nov. 9: Volunteers and Volleyball Rule the Day

Support the undefeated girls team and get inspired by how two volunteers have stepped up to teach kids.

Tuesday is going to be one chock full day.  meets in Montauk and  girls volleyball team plays in the second round of the playoffs. Plus, East Hampton Patch has number of interesting stories in the line up.

1. First up, the first Volunteer Spotlight pieces will run this morning at 11 a.m. The weekly column actually highlights the work of two volunteers: Joseph Realmuto and Bryan Futerman, who works as busy chefs and are the forces behind the Springs Seedlings Project at that school.

2. If you're inspired by what Realmuto and Futerman have done, perhaps you will consider volunteering for the  fundraiser with proceeds going to the Seedlings Project. There's a meeting at Project MOST headquarters in Springs at 7 p.m.

3. At 2 p.m., Patch will tell you all about how scallop season is going. Seems everyone waits for bay scallops to come in and they're here and bountiful. Where do you get your bay scallops? Let us know at easthampton.patch.com/questions.

4. The entire community is rallying behind the varsity girls volleyball team, which is undefeated so far. The girls have a 15 - 0 record. Can they go for 16 wins and stay in the playoffs? Find out when they take on Westhampton, a longtime rival school, at the high school at 5 p.m. If you can't make it down to the , check back on Patch later tonight.

5. Lastly, there's a free at at 7 p.m. Dr. Leonard Sax, an expert on childhood development and author of "Boys Adrift, Girls on the Edge and Why Gender Matters."  He will speak about why boys and girls engage in risk taking behaviors, with emphasis on gender specific information.
