Memorial Set for John McWhinnie

Family and friends will pay their respects in Manhattan on Thursday.

A service has been scheduled for , a noted rare-book and art dealer in East Hampton and Manhattan who died in a snorkeling accident in the British Virgin Islands on Jan. 6.

In an email on Tuesday, Glenn Horowitz confirmed that "his cherished colleague John McWhinnie will be remembered on Thursday at a memorial service at the Brotherhood Synagogue in New York City on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m."

McWhinnie managed and partnered Horowitz's rare book store, including a space shared with on Newtown Lane. He was well-known for bridging the high-end book world and the high-end contemporary art world.

He died in rough surf while snorkeling. His wife, the jewelry designer Maria Beaulieu was rescued.

The service will be non-denominational. The synagogue is located at 28 Gramercy Park South on 20th Street between Irving and Third Avenue.
