Lifeguard Training Starts This Week

Summer is just around the corner and that means lifeguard training starts now.

The Town of East Hampton is offering several courses to get swimmers prepared.

The first starts Sunday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. It's a skills and conditioning training program for those 15 and older at the and continues on Wednesdays 7 to 9:15 p.m. through April 18. No class will be held on Easter Sunday. Sign-up at the RECenter at the first class for $40.

This training is not a Lifeguard Certification Course, but prepares you to take the course in May and June that certifies you in pool, stillwater or ocean lifeguard.

A training, evaluating and testing program for the 2012 summer junior lifeguard program will be offered for kids 9 to 14 (as of July 1, 2011) at the RECenter on Sundays from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. It starts March and runs through June 17 (except for April 8 and April 22). There is no fee.

A Stillwater Lifeguard Certification Course will be given at the YMCA RECenter and the for those at least 15 years old (as of July 1, 2011)

There are two courses from April 29 to May 23; Sundays at the YMCA from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. (April 29 through May 20 with four make-up dates at the Maidstone Club) or Wednesdays at the YMCA from 7 to 9:15 p.m. (May 2 to 23). The practical test will be given on May 20 and 31. A lecture will be given on June 1 at the Maidstone Club. Two CPR courses will be offered on June 4 and 6 and June 18 and 20. The fee is $150 for the town and $30 for CPR.

The Ocean Lifeguard Certification Course will be given at the The Maidstone Club Ocean and Pool for those at least 16 from May 29 through June 15 over 14 sessions. The fee is $150, plus $50 for CPR portion.
