If Trees Could Walk: Library Uproots Giant Beech

Tree moving will allow for more park-like look at East Hampton Library.

As construction at the East Hampton Library's new children's wing nears completion, attention is turning to landscaping, and, this week, a rather large tree is in the spotlight.

On Monday and Tuesday, the staff from Marders dug and balled a large beech tree located next to the new children's wing addition, Dennis Fabiszak, the library director, said.

Marders will be moving the tree approximately 40 feet on the library property towards the corner of Buell Lane and Main Street, on Thursday morning.

"Moving this beautiful tree will center it between two other large trees on the library property," Fabiszak said.

"The perfect placement of this tree is part of the library plan, that Marders has designed, to give the property a more park like look," he said, adding, "Moving the tree will also allow for more sun light to shine through the windows of the new children's addition."
