If It's August, Those Must Be the Clintons

The Clintons, who have taken to spending their August vacations on the East End, are returning to our midst this summer, reports The New York Times.

Former President Bill Clinton and Former First Lady/Senator/Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have taken a house this August in Amagansett, which the Times describes as a "comparatively low-key Long Island beach town."

Last year, the Clintons spent the second half of the month in an $11 million 6-bedroom house on 3.5 acres (with beach access) that they rented in Sagaponack. And in previous years the first couple rented a house on Lily Pond Lane, in East Hampton, with steps leading down to the beach. They rode out Hurricane Irene at the house in 2011.

Over the years, the Clintons have become (highly visible) fixtures around the towns, turning up, together and separately, for meals at Almond restaurant in Bridgehampton and Babette's in East Hampton (where President Clinton celebrated his 65th birthday) and to rock out at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett.

They've also been spotted walking on Georgica beach with their dogs, buying tomatoes at Marilee Foster's farm stand in Sagaponack, and, in the former president's case, playing miniature golf with his niece and pressing the flesh at the annual Artist-Writers charity softball game in East Hampton.

According to The Times, this summer "will be a busy one for Mrs. Clinton, who will be just off a tour to promote her coming memoir — “Hard Choices,” due out in June — and perhaps in the throes of planning a presidential campaign."
