The powers that be behind the Am O'Gansett Parade have spoken: Htun Han is the 2013 grand marshal.
Han, an Amagansett real estate agent who also volunteers as an advanced emergency medical technician, will lead the shortest, but one of the most lively, parade in honor of the St. Patrick's Day holiday.
This year's parade, the fifth annual, will take place on March 9 at noon. "The parade will start at Mary's Marvelous and go allllllllllllllllllll the way down to the Computer Store, then spin around and come back for a double dose of healthy fun, maniacal laughter and all sorts of shenanigans," the description reads on the event's Facebook page.
"Not only was I surprised, I was floored!," Han told East Hampton Patch.
"Lee [Satinsky] had asked me to come see him on a work-related matter, and I had no idea what was going on when he and Patty Sales walked (rather, hijacked!) me over to Crossroads to meet with Mike [Clark], and they then proceeded to “FEZ” me up and bestowed upon me the title of “Grand Marshal” of this most eminent Parade!," he wrote. "This ceremony was all officially conducted, and I was awarded with a proclamation, which has been duly framed and will be proudly displayed for one and all to see."
(See attachment to check out the proclamation).
It’s a huge responsibility. Not only will I take it seriously, I will also undertake to live up to the high degree of esteem that past Grand Marshalls have brought to this exalted position AND raise the bar for future Grand Marshalls!
"Special guests who have been invited but probably won't come are President Obama, Betty White, Jimmy Fallon, Dick Clark, Abe Vigoda, Lindsey Lohan, Pee Wee Herman, Flipper, The Elephant Man and Clarence the Cross-Eyed Lion," the organizers said.
But, really, who needs them? The Am O'Gansett Parade has Htun Han and that's all that matters this year.
Glad to see the organizers name Htun Han the parade's grand marshal? Can't wait for all the fun? Tell us in the comments below.
Liz Jacob said, "Htun sold my parents their house in the early 80s, and will sell my fathers house for him this year. I still remember when my mom smashes her head while getting into Htun's small sedan, I must've been about 5 years old. Lol.... Glad to see he will be Grand Marshall this year, he is one of the few honest brokers out there!"
I will do my best to keep the old "tick-tock" working so not to have Htun miss the parade.
